Rockwell, on the other hand, would have to earn my coffee shop performance vote. But setting aside the problems with his character as written, there’s no denying that he inhabits it, struggling mightily to forefront nuance that isn’t actually there, and it’s the sort of EdgyTM portrayal that wins awards.
The 2018 Oscar rightfully belongs to Willem Dafoe for the year’s best film, but I think Academy voters will disagree.
