At this point, you may well wonder how much more I could possibly have to say. It’s not an unreasonable thing to wonder, but you may be surprised — I’ve actually been pretty moderate in my gushing praise so far.
So The Dissolve called it quits today. This is a shame. During its two-year run, it was the go-to place for smart, insightful, hilarious film writing. Its team of writers will go on to do more awesome stuff, to be sure, but it’s still a bummer for those of us who read it regularly.
It’s awards season, and there’s no shortage of commentary. I might chime in myself in a few weeks. (Spoilers: Boyhood, Ida, The Immigrant, Under The Skin, and Noah would win all the things if it were up to me, and Uma Thurman would get a best Supporting Actress nod for Nymphomaniac Vol 1 — it is not, it turns out, up to me.)
